How much to learn wake kiting?

You do need a boat but, presumably you already have access to one of those. If so, the wing will cost about $1500.

The sport is probably too young but, if you're not a proficient wake boarder, you would do well to take some instruction there.

What Kind of Weather Can I do it in?

Wake kiters will enjoy the same conditions that paramotor pilots do: light winds.

Where can I buy the gear?

At this point, the company WakeKite.com is the best resource.

What is a Wake Kite?

It's a traction kite that's purpose built to be towed behind a boat such that the wake boarder can get very extended jumping time. WakeKite is a trademarked brand name for one company that is building them (the only company so far).

What are the Risks?

It's not sitting on your couch watching TV but it seems no more dangerous than wake boarding. If you let the kite take you high and then let go, well, that's asking for it. But there are numerous release mechanisms that make it safer.

Just don't ever let it go higher than you're willing to fall, and keep to mellow air conditions.
